We are market leader in thick-walled plastic technology, based in Sneek, The Netherlands. We develop sustainable products and turn recycled materials into durable solutions for industries worldwide.
Our story began in 1803 when Nicolaas Jurjan Lankhorst founded a rope manufacturing company in Sneek, the Netherlands, where we still proudly operate today. Starting with natural fibre ropes, the company evolved through the introduction of synthetic materials in the 1960s, improving performance and durability.
In 1975 we made a forward thinking decision that shaped our future. We began turning our own production waste into valuable recycled plastic products. This innovative step marked the beginning of our leadership in recycled plastic products and thick walled engineering, laying the foundation for the sustainable solutions we develop today.
With more than 200 years of history in Sneek, Lankhorst is more than just a company. We are a part of the community. In this region, it is often said that everyone knows someone in their family who works or once worked at Lankhorst. That connection is no coincidence. Generations of dedicated and skilled people have helped shape who we are today.
Their craftsmanship, loyalty and pride live on in our culture, in the way we innovate, and in the responsibility we feel towards the region. This deep and lasting bond with our people is the reason behind one of our most important principles: our people will always come first.
While our roots run deep in the local community, our impact reaches far beyond. Across the globe, we support critical infrastructure with advanced engineered plastic solutions.
Driven by decades of innovation and engineering expertise, we have earned the trust of steel producers, railway networks, civil engineering partners and offshore operators on every continent.
At the heart of our capabilities is our specialized R&D team. By conducting in depth research into the behavior of plastics in high mass shapes, we remain at the forefront of innovation in engineered plastics.
This advanced material knowledge enables our production facilities in Sneek to process both commodity plastics such as LDPE, HDPE and PP, and engineering plastics including PA and PU. We translate this knowledge into high performance products with demanding specifications, ranging from wall thicknesses of 5 to 250 millimetres and finished weights between 0.5 and 250 kilograms.
From raw material to finished product, quality control is embedded in every step. Our in house laboratory performs comprehensive testing to ensure that each product meets the strict standards defined by both our research and our clients.
Sustainability is not an extra feature but the foundation of everything we do. We believe that waste is not the end of a product’s life, but the beginning of something new. By upcycling plastic waste streams, we prevent incineration and significantly reduce carbon emissions.
Our products are developed to be carbon negative, meaning they prevent more emissions over their lifetime than are generated during production. We achieve this by choosing recycled plastics instead of virgin materials, running our operations on 100% green energy, and engineering long lasting products that perform for decades.
Sustainability at Lankhorst goes beyond production. We design our KLP® components for reuse and disassembly, and we support customers in extending the lifespan of existing structures through smart, circular solutions.
