Plastic engineering tailored to your unique challenges

Work with us to turn your toughest challenges into tailor-made plastic solutions — sustainable, durable, and engineered to perform.

Our other divisions deliver solutions for specific sectors such as rail infrastructure, offshore, coil storage, and civil & marine infrastructure.

Custom Solutions is different. Here, you gain direct access to our polymer engineering know-how and industry-leading thick-walled polymer moulding. Whether you bring a design for or prefer to co-engineer with us from the first sketch, we adapt to your needs. With more than 50 years of leadership in upcycling polymer waste, it is no surprise that we place a strong focus on recycled materials.

From design and prototyping to assembly, storage, and logistics, we take ownership of the entire process. What sets us apart is not only the outcome but also the way we work: transparent communication, structured project management, and proactive risk control.

The result is a tailor-made plastic solution that combines durability, sustainability, and performance—engineered precisely for your application.

Trusted across industries

Every project we deliver is unique. Working closely with our clients, we engineer custom plastic solutions that solve specific challenges across a wide range of sectors. These examples show the breadth of applications we have supported — from offshore energy to nuclear power.

  • Offshore energy — Custom-engineered plastic inlays replacing hardwood in heavy-duty offshore transport applications.
  • Maritime & vessels — Custom KLP® deck covers as durable, non-slip alternatives to hardwood.
  • Construction — Scaffolding sole plates moulded from recycled polymers.
  • Rescue systems — Stabilisation wedges and blocks supplied as standard kits on emergency vehicles.
  • Industrial logistics — Heavy-duty storage solutions for coils and pipes, replacing wood or metal.
  • Sewer systems — Custom-moulded plastic manholes; large-format, underground-ready assemblies.
  • Nuclear & utilities — Custom moulded parts where safety, reliability, and long service life are critical.

All of these are custom solutions, developed exclusively with our clients. They are not commercialised as the more standard Lankhorst products ans systems.

Our capabilities

Lankhorst Custom Solutions specialises in thick-walled plastic moulding for industrial applications. We process both commodity plastics (LDPE, HDPE, PP) and engineering plastics (PA, PU). Our production facilities can handle wall thicknesses from 5 mm up to 250 mm, with shot weights ranging from 0.5 kg to 250 kg.

Our R&D and engineering team uses CAD modelling, finite element analysis (FEM) and mould flow analysis to optimise designs for manufacturability and performance. Prototypes can be produced and tested under real-world conditions in our in-house facilities. Quality is ensured through a fully calibrated laboratory, including tests for humidity, melt flow index, tensile strength, impact resistance, and long-term compression at temperatures from –30 °C to +40 °C.

Circular by design

Sustainability isn’t an add-on — it’s the foundation of everything we do at Lankhorst. Since 1975, when we first discovered that waste from our synthetic rope production could be transformed into valuable new products, we have been pioneers in circular economy practices. What began with converting rope waste into KLP® plastic timber has evolved into today’s advanced engineered solutions across multiple industries.

Our Custom Solutions team continues this 50-year tradition, transforming recycled plastics into innovative, structural-grade components that last longer, require less maintenance, and significantly reduce environmental impact.

Made with purpose

Innovation at Custom solutions goes hand-in-hand with social responsibility. Many of our custom products are assembled in cooperation with Empatec, a trusted regional social workplace that operates their own workshop directly on our premises in Sneek. This close partnership creates meaningful opportunities for people in our community while ensuring seamless integration in our production process.

Our commitment to sustainability extends to our operations themselves. Our production runs 100% on solar energy generated by a solar park on the Lankhorst grounds. Together, we create working and learning opportunities for people in our community while delivering sustainable, high-quality solutions powered entirely by renewable energy.

Certified quality, safety, and sustainability

Many of our products are evaluated and approved by TÜV Germany and Lankhorst Engineered Products is ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified.

  • ISO 9001: Quality certificate
  • ISO 14001: Environment certificate
  • ISO 45001: Safety certificate
