History

With roots dating back to 1803, our journey reflects over two centuries of transformation, innovation and resilience, built by people and driven by progress.

1803

Nicolaas Jurjan Lankhorst started a rope manufacturing company in Sneek, the Netherlands. Natural fibres were used for production of the ropes. The ropes served both agricultural and maritime purposes.

1964

Synthetics were introduced in rope production, resulting in a more consistent product quality and longer service life. The tensile strength and elasticity of these new materials outperformed the properties of natural fibres, while also offering moisture resistance and the ability to float.

1975

The waste material of synthetic rope production proved to be useful. At the time, disposing of this plastic waste through external companies was costly, which led Lankhorst to start manufacturing the first products made from 100% recycled polymers.

1980

The first plastic products led to the establishment of Lankhorst Recycling Products, now known as Lankhorst Infrastructure. Today, it focuses on sustainable solutions for civil engineering and public space applications.

1981

The world’s first coil storage chock made from recycled plastics was developed and produced. Following this innovation, Lankhorst Coil Storage Solutions was established around 1985. Today, it focuses on safe and efficient coil storage and transport worldwide, supporting safety across the world.

2001

The first riser fins were developed for offshore drilling riser protection. In the period that followed, the first VIV strakes were produced and tested. These innovations led to the founding of Lankhorst Offshore. Today, it focuses on offshore protection and flow suppression solutions.

2003

In 2003, Her Majesty the Queen of the Netherlands granted the title “Royal” to the company during its 200th anniversary celebrations. Lankhorst Engineered Products is part of the Royal Lankhorst Euronete Group.

2004

Due to the intended European ban on creosoted wood, Lankhorst began developing the KLP® Hybrid Polymer Sleeper. In 2006, the first sleepers were installed in the Netherlands. These innovations led to the founding of Lankhorst Rail. Today, it focuses on sustainable railway solutions worldwide.

2012

WireCo WorldGroup Inc. acquired the Royal Lankhorst Euronete Group, which includes Lankhorst Engineered Products. WireCo is the global market, manufacturing and technical leader in wire and synthetic rope production, as well as high quality plastic products based on recycled materials.

Today...

Today, the production of our KLP® Solutions has repurposed over 160 million kilograms of plastic waste, preventing it from incineration or ending up in landfill. Lankhorst Engineered Products provides circular plastic solutions for future generations, trusted by industries worldwide.
